The Compass Knight 3D

The Compass Knight 3D

As some of you may have noticed, we’ve picked up a couple of sponsors here at HeliGeek. Our latest sponsor is Common Sense RC, who have relatively recently begun distribution of the Compass Model RC helicopter line which includes the Atom 500, the Knight series, and the Odin .90.

With the assistance of the great folks over at Common Sense RC, I’m pleased to announce that I will be writing a build log / review for the excellent Knight 3D CF .50 size RC helicopter. Additionally, Common Sense RC has picked up the new Torsion brand blades, designed by Czech heli pro Petr Novotný and I will be reviewing the 600CF mains, the 600 paddles and the Torsion tail blades.

To round everything out, I’ll be using one of the GP-Exhaust pipes that Common Sense RC is now carrying.

Other equipment will be as follows:

Receiver – Spektrum AR7100*
Cyclic / Throttle Servos – Hyperion Atlas programmable (DS20SMD?)*
Tail Servo – Not sure yet…possibly a JR8900G… anyone got one to donate?
Gyro – Spartan DS760 (LOVE this gyro!)
Engine – O.S. 50 SXH Hyper
Governor – Aerospire MultiGov Pro
Regulator – Fromeco Arizona

The actual Knight 3D kit showed up last night via the Big Brown Truck and I opened the box to take a look and grab the instruction manual (yes, they have a paper manual included!). I took a look at the partially pre-assembled frame and the other components as much as possible without removing everything from the box and I need to tell you guys that the quality of this kit at this point is very impressive! More details will follow, but I get the feeling that I’m going to really like this heli just by looking at the parts!

In any case, the parts are almost all in and I’ll be getting the build started soon. Every report I’ve heard of the Compass Knight 3D has been a positive one and I’m really looking forward to doing a good, detailed build log for you all.

Stay tuned!

*I’ll also be doing a mini-review on these

You dog! Mike hasn’t even offered us blades or pipe at InsideHeli to review. Maybe he’ll send a Rondo flybarless setup our way. ;)

LOL! Well, it may help that I’ve also just become a Field Rep for Common Sense / Compass. Rest assured though that my review will be an honest one, as that’s one thing I always insist on.

Have many pilots over here flying the compass and with a new supplier they are going to be very happy and recommending the heli to others. Looking forward to getting your final review.
